Having a fresh smelling home is so essential in our daily lives.  We love a clean smelling home just like our fresh laundry.  When we walk into our homes we want to smell freshness.  Sometimes there are odors that cause a huge issues that we do not want.  We will do anything from burning candles, spraying disinfectants and over cleaning with chemicals to rid of the odor.  How do we keep it fresh for us to enjoy our homes?  There are many home remedies we can cocotte to help with the nasty smells.  There are different sources to contribute to your home’s odors including: must, old age, pets, food and daily regimen, poor air circulation, smoke, old finishes – carpet/wallpaper, etc… and a host of others. 

  • Musty Odors:  you can help by removing wallpapers, carpeting and refinishing old wood floors.
  • Pet Odors:  generally are from wet pets, it would help to get your carpets and furnishings steam cleaned or hot water extractions.  Only true way to remove the odor completely.  Removes pet dander as well.
  • Food odors from cooking:  Use the range hood vent when cooking to remove cooking odors from the air.  Remember to clean this often to remove the odors.  Turn on garbage disposal immediately after placing food in – and put fresh lemons down drain to keep it clean and odor free.  Double bagging your leftovers before putting them in the trash can will help tremendously.  Remember to cleanup dirty dishes quickly to remove foul odors.
  • Poor air circulations and smoke odors:  Remember to change out your air filters on a monthly basis.  Do not smoke in your home at all times.  Smoke is the hardest odor to get rid of.  Smoke settles into finishes and can stay for years into the future. Open the windows to increase air circulation. Doing so allows fresh air to enter your home and push the old air outside.
  • Cleaning your home on a regular basis: is the best advice we can give.  If your home is not clean and fresh you need to clean your home more often.

Making homemade deodorizers:

  • Cut fresh fruit, herbs and place in a pot of boiling water.  This will infuse the whole house to make it smell wonderful.
  • Baking soda and essential oils in a jar make a perfect air freshener for any room.  Also saves you money on expensive products you buy at the store.
  • Garbage disposal and drain cleaner-baking soda and vinegar to remove the odor. Works really well getting all the nasty odor out of your drains.
  • Essential oils, vinegar and water in a bottle for odor removing in any rooms.  Also works on carpets as well.
  • Really strong pet odors-dishwashing detergent and vinegar

There are many home remedies you can make with inexpensive products like, baking soda, vinegar, essential oils and water to make your home fresher.  It’s much cheaper than buying one from the store.  So next time instead of buying one at the store try some simple ingredients that you have in your home to make your own home deodorizer.
