Every day our bodies are exposed to small amounts of toxins, carcinogens, and organic pollutants, and over the course of our lives this can have a very harmful effect, and lead to an increased risk of serious disease.  An air purifier is a device which removes contaminants from the air. These devices are commonly marketed as being beneficial to allergy sufferers and asthmatics, and at reducing or eliminating second-hand tobacco smoke. The ventilation method may, however, be limited by weather conditions or undesirable levels of contaminants contained in outdoor air. The tight seals that make your home comfortable and energy efficient also make the indoor air more polluted. The air inside your home is five to ten times dirtier than the air outside, and Americans spend 90% of their lives indoors. If these measures are insufficient, an air cleaning device may be useful.

  • ·         First defense is your home air filters.  In households, these filters are usually part of the heating or cooling.  Home air filters need to be changed on a monthly basis to do the job properly.  They do get a lot of build up so it must be changed on a regular basis. Filters clean the air by passing it through a filter that removes particles that pass through your air vents. These filters catch any particles or debris so it does not blow back into your home.
  • ·         High-efficiency purifiers (HEPA) that are rated to remove impurities from the air and minimize allergens can reduce allergic reactions. Using air purifiers at night can help allergy-prone individuals recharge their body in a minimal allergy environment. Quality sleep may help increase the immune system, which can help the body fight allergic reactions. Air purifiers may be recommended if you have asthma, allergies or lung conditions.
  • ·         Ion Generators and Ozone Generators create charged particles (ions) and emit them into the surrounding air. These ions combine with impurities (like dust) in the air, forcing the impurities to cling to a nearby surface. Consequently, ion generators often produce dirty spots on nearby walls and floors because they do not eliminate impurities; ion generators simply force impurities to cling to a surface (in the same way that static electricity can make a sock cling to a shirt).
  • ·         •Activated Carbon Filters are rarely used alone to purify the air, but they are often used in conjunction with other filters. Activated carbon and charcoal filters excel at adsorbing odors and gases and neutralizing smoke, chemicals, and fumes. “Adsorb” is not a typo; “adsorption” occurs when materials attach through chemical attraction. Activated carbon has been treated with oxygen, opening up millions of pores in the carbon. There are so many of these tiny pores that one pound of activated carbon has a surface area of 60 to 150 acres.

There are many different air purifiers we can use but always remember the ONLY way we can truly remove all allergens in your home is to hire a professional carpet cleaner. Call your professional carpet cleaning company that removes the contaminants out of your carpets and upholstery.   More than 90 percent of household dust comes from people and fabric: tiny flakes of skin, barely visible fibers that float on the slightest air currents and settle on every surface in your house. In a spot sheltered from air movement, the particles stay put. In other areas, they constantly rise and settle as doors swing open and people pass by. Even if fighting dust is a battle you can never completely win, you can work to eliminate it as much as possible to avoid triggering dust allergy reactions. You live in it and breath it every day.
