fingernail_polishDrop some red fingernail polish? If so, you probably are looking for a solution that works! Fingernail polish will bond to just about anything…that is the problem! So, you need a product the breaks down the polish structure to be removed. Acetone based solutions work best. Example, fingernail polish remover, paint remover all contain acetone. But, with any acetone based solution, these products must be used safely and with caution! They require proper ventilation and if used incorrectly it can damage your carpet or fabric. Your best option is to test a section of carpet (closet or carpet leftover) before treating with acetone based solutions. Here are some tips on removing fingernail polish from carpet.

Things you will need

  1. Carpet Scissors
  2. Fingernail Polish Remover
  3. White Cloth (2)
  4. Toothbrush
  5. Dropper
  6. Wet/Dry Vacuum

Directions

  1. First, use the carpet scissors to trim out any dry polish. Be careful not to trim the carpet fibers too short! Once you have trimmed out the polish you can begin to remove the leftover polish from the carpet.
  2. Apply 3-4 drops of fingernail polish remover to the stained area. You will see the polish begin to run or fade. At this point, use the white cloth to blot the stain until the color is removed. Continue this process until desired results are achieved. If the stain seems to be stubborn, you can use the toothbrush to agitate lightly. Do not rub too hard, you can damage the carpet fibers! Blot with the white towel until the stain is faded or color is no longer on towel. Continue this process until desired results are achieved.
  3. At this point, the majority of the stain should be removed. There may be a little polish color left in the carpet. So, you are going to extract the remaining color from the carpet. This will also rinse the carpet from any chemical residue. Take the dropper and apply 4-5 drops of fingernail polish remover to the stain and suction immediately with the wet/dry vacuum! You will see the color begin to remove from the carpet completely. Repeat this process until desired results are achieved.
  4. Rinsing the carpet is also very important! If not, the leftover residue can fade your carpet over time. It may also carry a chemical odor also. You are going to use the same extraction process mentioned earlier. Use 3-4 ounces of warm water and pour directly onto the stain. Vacuum immediately! Repeat this process until desired results are achieved.
